Lushaholic Curly Wurly

Curly Wurly Shampoo Review

Initial Thoughts

Curly Wurly is a very unique shampoo with a texture, scent and application all its own. The weight and consistency indicate that it’s going to be a more moisture focused shampoo for both your scalp and hair. The cocoa butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, avocado butter and extra virgin olive oil definitely play an integral part in Curly Wurly to hydrate your tresses.

The scent is primarily coconut and vanilla with lighter hints of lemon. It smells a bit like a subdued version of a tropical island. The combination of ingredients results in a barely there type of sweetness that compliments the coconut. As far as consistency, Curly Wurly is similar to a paste, thick and heavy. Coconut pieces are clearly visible in the mixture and they add a fun bit of texture to the shampoo.

Lush says:

Curly Wurly makes thick, unruly curls behave. It’s packed full of nutritious creamed coconut and coconut oil, moisturizing vanilla, softening eggs and avocado butter to give moisture back to hair and eliminate frizz.

Due to its unique consistency (and the fact that everyone’s hair texture is different), Curly Wurly can be applied in a number of ways. As with most Lush products, a little product goes a long way; it’s best to use a small amount first and add more if needed. My hair length falls past my shoulders and is almost half way down my back and I used about a teaspoon sized amount of shampoo.

After grabbing a bit of the paste, I add small amounts of water while mixing it in my hands until it gets to a thin enough consistency for me to massage into my scalp and hair. Another way to apply Curly Wurly is to simply grab a little at a time from the pot and put it directly on your wet hair as needed.

After thoroughly massaging the shampoo and rinsing out, I have found that some of the coconut pieces will get stuck in your hair (the amount, if any, that will stay in yours depends on your hair texture and length). I’ve found that simply using a bit of conditioner (I recommend Coolaulin, retro product available online only) easily takes care of it and helps any coconut pieces rinse right out.

Curly Wurly has become a permanent part in my shampoo lineup. It’s the one that I use most during the winter and cooler months when my scalp and hair need the extra moisture and conditioning. Curly Wurly also does a great job of smoothing out and keeping the flyaway hairs to a minimum. I’m a big fan of the scent and I love that it lingers in my hair after I use it. If you want a double coconut scent burst, pair it with Coolaulin conditioner.
